Driven by their deep love for the Cuban people, Bert and Leona Ewert have been committed to supporting pastors in Cuba for over 20 years, providing essential aid and resources.
Bert and Leona Ewert began their work in Cuba over 20 years ago. They are driven by their commitment to support pastors in the most dire circumstances. Currently, they support around 30 pastors. In the face of Cuba’s escalating crisis—a lack of food, medicine, water, and basic necessities—their mission is more crucial than ever. The hope found in Christ is a beacon for the Cuban people, and they are committed to standing alongside the pastors who are at the forefront of this critical work.
As their children left home and Bert and Leona Ewert faced the “empty nest” phase, a new couple joined their small church group. Much older than them, this couple had traveled extensively with Open Doors, aiding persecuted churches. Their stories of God’s provision and the impact of their work deeply moved Bert and Leona, especially their experiences in Cuba. Encouraged by their invitation, they felt a strong call from God to join them.
Over 20 years later, Bert and Leona have been traveling to Cuba at least twice a year, except during Covid. Their first trip was a mix of challenges and blessings: government surveillance, a stolen passport, and primitive accommodations. Yet, despite these difficulties, the Holy Spirit touched their hearts, deepening their love for Cuba and its people.
Our mission is to relieve pastors from the burden of daily financial concerns, enabling them to focus on shepherding their churches.
