Grace For The Vulnerable
Kisaakye Child Empowerment and Rehabilitation Organization (KICERO) is a registered community-based organization that focuses on improving the quality of life for vulnerable children, especially those with multiple disabilities, in the Kayunga district.
In 2007, Melanie Olorenshaw first visited Uganda to train local health workers in caring for children with special needs. There, she met Charles, Mawazi, Emma, and Moses, and was deeply moved by their program’s impact. Returning in 2008 for further training, Melanie saw the urgent need for funding and began annual fundraisers through her company, Brilliant Beginnings, back in Calgary. As Kisaakye Rehabilitation started in 2012, Melanie realized more sustainable funding was needed beyond annual events. In June 2013, she and her husband Brad organized supporters to adopt a partnership model, where committed individuals would provide consistent annual support. This approach aimed to empower Ugandan staff to directly serve families. Kisaakye advocates for equal volunteer opportunities regardless of geography, race, sex, or marital status, ensuring funds directly benefit local communities rather than North American agencies.
A fully accepted, included and well cared for community of vulnerable children and youth, with disabilities in Uganda.
To enhance the good health, social, and economic welfare of vulnerable youth and children, especially those with disabilities, through the provision of necessary medical care and psychosocial support.
