THE LATE REVEREND DR. JOHN W. LUCAS
Founder
Dr. John W. Lucas 111
President
John William Lucas is a third-generation pastor and the Senior Pastor of Immanuel Church in Calgary, the congregation his grandfather planted in 1946. As part of a family legacy spanning more than 80 years of ministry service in the City of Calgary, Pastor John has faithfully served both his local congregation and the wider church community. Throughout his ministry, he has helped lead thoughtful responses to the city’s evolving needs.
Pastor John was licensed to Christian ministry in 1988 through The Fellowship of Christian Assemblies in Canada. That same year, he began serving at Immanuel Church in downtown Calgary under the leadership of his father, Dr. John Watson Lucas. In 1994, he assumed the role of Senior Pastor and has continued to lead the congregation with faithful and steady pastoral service ever since.
In June 1999, Pastor John was elevated to the office of Presbyter in the Western Orthodox Church of America, where he served under the late Bishop Ronald Coady. This appointment broadened his ministry influence and provided opportunities for wider leadership and service. Alongside his pastoral ministry, John has served for the past eight years as Executive Director of the Menno Simons Christian School of Calgary, a Kindergarten to Grade 9 school in Calgary that serves approximately 230 students each year.
Pastor John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Providence University, a Master’s in Counselling from Victory Bible College International, and a Doctor of Divinity degree from the Canadian Christian Theological Seminary.
